Google Analytics for eCommerce - a must have report for online stores
By Diego Reyes - Internet Marketing Consultant
I come across a number of online businesses/stores that are still not taking advantage of the powerful ecommerce reporting tools that Google offers for free. That’s right for free!
All I care about is sales
What I find is that most business owners or internet retailers measure online success or failure only by one metric – sales. And I don’t blame them because most ecommerce software programs / shopping carts make it easy for you to generate these “sales reports”.
The problem with this approach is that you are missing out on other valuable data that can help you better understand “how” a sale happened.

So what can Google Analytics do for you in 10 seconds or less?
- Understand your conversion rate – all that traffic but how many visitors are actually converting to buying customers ? Hmmm...
- Discover what keywords or lead sources are actually generating sales – say goodbye to “blind” spending. Now you will know exactly what marketing source is generating revenue. Thumbs up
- Get to “really” know your customers!
- Which city, state/province or country is generating the most revenue for you?
- How much are they spending per order – average order value?
- What products do they really like - product performance indicators?
- How many visits before they purchase from us – visits to purchase / days to purchase indicators?
Now if that doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will!
